The Allentown Association is leading an effort, with support from Kleinhans Community Association and other area organizations, to align both the Allentown local and National Register historic district boundaries.
There are both benefits and responsibilities associated with owning a home in a historic district. For those in Allentown who admire the beauty and craftsmanship of Buffalo’s antique homes, it’s seen as a way of protecting them now and for future generations.
Because of different boundaries, rights and responsibilities associated with the National Register Allentown Historic District and the City of Buffalo Preservation Board Allentown Historic District, much confusion continues in the minds of Allentown property owners and renovators. The solution to these various points of confusion is to create a single district that has identical boundaries on the National, New York State and City of Buffalo level ( reference map).
