20 Orton Place was formerly the site of an abandoned house, demolished in 1999. Since 2000, a beautiful garden can now be found on the site of the former home, becoming a source of beauty, food and community gathering space. This transformation has been accomplished though a partnership between the Kleinhans Community Association and Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo. Funding for the project was accomplished with donations of money and sweat equity from community residents as well as support from Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, The City of Buffalo and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
Orton Gardens draws thousands of visitors
every year during the annual GardenWalk
held during the last weekend of July.
